Bring us up to speed. It's been a LONG time.
I went to college in MA where I continued to swim competitively and completed a Math major (still seeking Morgan Byers' approval). After graduating I worked in Boston for a year as a computer programmer for a wholesale liquor distributor. At that point I decided to avoid the real world for as long as I could, so I went to graduate school in TX. Hung out in Austin for almost 7 years, contemplated sticking around as house painter, but finished a Ph.D. in Math anyway (dedicated my dissertation to Mr. Byers actually). I spent the next 6 years toiling in academia, first at the U of MN in Minneapolis where I directed a retention program for at-risk / minority students in Math & Science. My next gig was at a liberal arts college, the College of Wooster, in rural OH about 75 miles from Cleveland right on the edge of Amish country. I enjoyed teaching and the professorial lifestyle, but the job market was awful in academics, so I decided, what the heck, go high tech. I found jobs in a succession of boutique consulting companies specializing in data and analytics, none of which exist anymore, where my first placement was at Miller Brewing back in WI, and I haven't left since. I became an employee of Miller over 18 years ago, and if you've been keeping tabs on the last of our great hometown breweries still in existence, during that time we were acquired by SAB and became SABMiller, then we merged with Coors to form MillerCoors and now we are part of Molson Coors, one of the top 5 brewing companies in the world. It was/is really fun working for Miller/SABMiller/MillerCoors/Molson Coors in particular and in the brewing industry general. I currently manage the global IT team specializing in "advanced analytics"/ . Along the way I have been accompanied by my wonderful wife Urszula. We met in TX when we both were in grad school. She came to the US from Poland in her 20's. We try to remain in contact with the culture, having had multiple long term house guests from the family over the years. We go back every couple of years, and I speak pretty good Polish, having lived there once on my own for half a year doing math research at the U of Warsaw. We've raised two kids; our daughter Emi who is 25 and an aspiring TV producer currently located in Milwaukee and Miko my step-son who lives in Texas and is a lawyer.
